Personal Statement

Baseball has been a major part of my life since tee-ball. I love everything about it including the relationships developed with teammates, coaches and opponents over the years. Mostly, I love to compete and I strive to be the best player possible and improve after every practice and game. I also strive to be a great teammate and leader. I hope my work ethic and love of competition and my desire to win rubs off on everyone around me.

I’m also serious in the classroom and work hard to maintain excellent grades. I hope to graduate with a 3.8 GPA. The academic strength of schools is an important factor to me when considering colleges. I want more than anything to compete beyond the college level, but if that doesn’t happen, I want to go to medical school and become a physician so I can come back and serve my community.

I come from a large family and have five brothers who all play sports. My parents have always been so supportive of all of our activities and I feel very fortunate to have their support. Living in Alaska and being a baseball player has its disadvantages. Our season is very short up here. We play as soon as the snow melts, usually May 1st until the end of July. I’ve been very lucky to play for some Alaskan travel teams in order to compete outside Alaska against strong competition as well as play with my travel team based in Washington state.

  • 2021 Walla Walla Sweets 18U (College Showcase )
  • The Sweets baseball team was created in 2011 with the goal of bringing together a great group of kids who in time would be able to travel regionally and experience a higher level of competition playing against the best select programs on the West Coast. The criteria essential to achieving this goal is to find high character kids with solid athletic attributes who are committed to learning the mental side of the game. The last pin to this is to find like-minded parents who entrust the coaching group to achieve these goals. In doing so, we have created a culture that enables these kids to thrive on the baseball field as well as take life skills from the diamonds and transfer these qualities into everyday life. We strive to play against the best competition and put them in situations where their best is needed.
  • 2020 Laces Baseball Academy 18u College Showcase (College Showcase )
  • Our season was mostly canceled because of COVID. We traveled to Utah for the Pathway Baseball Utah Fall Classic. Our team made it to the championship bracket, but lost in single elimination. We played top-level teams from California, Utah, Washington and Idaho. I was named to the 18U All Tournament 2nd Team for shortstop. I batted 0.400 for the tournament.
  • 2020 Mercedes-Benz Baseball PAC NW - BENZ Fall Scout League (College Scout)
  • Pacific Northwest Regional Baseball and Mercedes-Benz Baseball have partnered to operate a robust Fall Scout League schedule on weekends beginning the end of August through the middle of October. Both organizations traditionally field competitive Fall Scout Teams to compete against local community colleges in Washington and Oregon. However, with the current state of affairs, this will not be possible in 2020. The decision to combine resources while sharing facilities preserves a competitive and consistent playing experience for top ballplayers in Washington and Oregon. Pacific Northwest Regional Baseball has a ten-year history of operating Fall Scout programming while advocating for the region's brightest talent. Founded in 2017, Mercedes-Benz Baseball is managed by college coaches for elite prospects in the Pacific Northwest. Gameplay will be live-streamed on Twitter and measurables with player contact information will be made available to college coaches and professional scouts.
  • 2019 Laces 16U Select (16U)
  • 2019 Mercedes-Benz NWAC Fall Scout Team (College Showcase/Prep)
  • Elite level high school-level team who travels to play junior college baseball teams in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) in the fall season. I was the youngest player on the team and invited back for the 2020 season.
  • 2018 Alaska Baseball Academy - Jr. Sockeyes (15U )
  • 2018 Alaska Baseball Academy - Jr. Sockeyes 14-U (14U)

  • I am on Canada's Milwaukee Brewer's Scout Team. The Arizona Junior Fall Classic is one of the premier showcases in the country. Limiting the graduation year to juniors makes the event a very good evaluation time for colleges to see players compete amongst their peers. The main focus of all of our events is to provide opportunities for all players to have a playing career after high school baseball. The format and scheduling have evolved into what has proven the best possible way for all of the players to showcase their skills for the colleges and pro scouts in attendance. -Showcase Format – No Scores – Wood & wood composite bats only – 5 hitters per half inning – Games are on a 2 hour time limit – Invitation Only

  • AZ JUNIOR FALL CLASSIC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM SELECTION (GAME)
  • 10/01/20 to 10/01/20
  • Academic Game Requirements: (Must meet at least one of these criteria): Must have at least a 3.7 GPA OR an ACT score of 27 or higher OR SAT score of 1200 or higher. Our skilled group of evaluators have hundreds of years of evaluation experience. From all levels from MLB to years of amateur baseball experience. Each part of the tryout goes into the decision making process. Our evaluators grade arm strength, speed and quickness, baseball skill level, and of course hitting. The pitchers will be graded on arm strength, athletic ability, and pitch ability. We have explained in the past that your Academics is the biggest factor to get in the tryout, but your baseball skill is what we look for to get in the actual game
  • Camp/Event
  • 2020 Northwest Championships - Class of 2021-2024
  • 9/04/20 to 9/07/20
  • I am on the Tri-State Team. The long-standing Northwest Championship Tournament is the largest event of its kind in the Northwest region, drawing hundreds of the region’s top athletes to compete against each other. It also draws the largest collection of college recruiters and professional scouts to observe a Northwest amateur baseball event. The 22nd annual 2020 Northwest Championship Tournament for the classes of 2021-2024 will be held September 4th-7th at U.S. Cellular Community Park in Medford, OR. This tournament includes Baseball Northwest hand-selected teams from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.
  • Camp/Event
  • Pathway Baseball Utah Fall Classic 2020
  • 8/12/20 to 8/15/20
  • The event will be host to top-teams from California, Utah, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and other surrounding areas. There will be a 4-game guarantee format with all teams advancing to single elimination bracket play on Friday and Saturday. Utah County has been a great host during the previous two events this year (Pathway Utah and Pathway Wasatch Front 2020) and we look forward to closing out a successful summer. Utah County will become a future home for a Pathway event in 2021 and moving forward, so stay tuned as the planning for next year will begin this fall. aspx

  • PBR PACIFIC NORTHWEST FALL CHAMPIONSHIP
  • 9/21/19 to 9/22/19
  • Seven teams from the Pacific Northwest with players from a multitude of states (including Alaska) converged on the premier new facility in the region, the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex, for the PBR Northwest Fall Championship. The site, just north of Portland on the Washington side, was the perfect intimate setting for the teams and players to showcase their skills. After a pristine day of weather on Saturday, the Northwest’s “liquid sunshine” set in on Sunday. Undeterred by the rain, the teams were still able to compete at a high level, and the energy brought over the course of the two day tournament was impressive as committed and uncommitted players alike, elevated their games. In the end, a New Level team that featured a stacked lineup defeated Laces Baseball in the championship game, avenging an opening-game loss. + Uncommitted 2022 3B Oliver Brown (South Anchorage HS, AK) represented the state of Alaska very well on the day while competing for the Laces Baseball team out of Washington. Built compactly with some athleticism in a 6-foot, 175-pound frame, Brown comfortably tracked pitches with a fluent, well-connected load from the right side that allowed his quick hands to work freely. He had multiple hits on the day including a booming triple in the second game of the day for Laces. Defensively, he completed a plethora of routine plays in the early game of the day showcasing solid arm strength across the diamond with sure-hands. He will likely fill out considerably over the next few years, and should find even more power along with having a chance to stick on the left side as a defender at the next level. • LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT 2018 NATIONAL UNDERCLASS SHOWCASE-MAIN EVENT Oliver Brown is a 2022 SS/RHP with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Anchorage, AK who attends South Anchorage HS. Recorded a 7.45 second 60-yard dash time. Lean, athletic frame with a young build and plenty of room for additional strength. Primary shortstop with solid footwork and clean exchanges. Three-quarters arm slot with arm strength recorded up to 78 mph across the diamond. Secondary righthanded pitcher with fluid mechanics and a short, quick arm stroke. Hides the ball well and located well to the glove side. Curveball has nice shape with spin and projects nicely. Righthanded hitter with an upright base, high hand set, and a high back elbow. Short, directional swing with a clean swing path. Contact oriented stroke and uses the entire field well on a line. Good student.
