Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Dom Wuertz.  I’m a left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing middle infielder with a strong work ethic who leads by example on and off the field.  I believe that I would be a good recruit for college baseball as I am a man of character and stand out from my peers in several ways.

One way is by setting goals for myself and doing whatever it takes to achieve them. One of my goals is to play college baseball.  I try to do whatever I can to make that goal a reality, but I really believe it’s the little things you do everyday, in the off season and when no one else is pushing you, that make all the difference.

Whether it’s going to the cages and hitting for an hour, tee work in my garage, throwing short hops off my refrigerator, working on hitting mechanics in the mirror or hours spent on strength and conditioning, I believe this kind of consistent grind will help me take my game to the next level. One of my favorite quotes is, “If it is important enough to you, you will find a way. If it is not, you will find an excuse.” I try to live by that everyday.

Another way I stand out from my peers is by being a leader both on and off the field. In my opinion, displaying leadership means to pick up your friends when they’re not having the best day in the classroom or on the field.  Some of the responsibilities of being a student athlete are to show up on time, be a leader for your classmates and teammates, put in extra effort outside of what’s required, and work as hard as you can during every class and every rep. Attending a private high school like St. John Vianney will help me continue to challenge myself with strong academics while being a part of a competitive baseball program.

I look forward to starting my college baseball recruiting journey and enjoying the process as much as the results.
