Michael Quartermain '22 Recruiting Profile

My name is Michael Quartermain and I am a tight end/athlete at Brophy College Preparatory.  I have been playing football my entire life and a dream of mine since I was young has been to play college football. My football story is one of overcoming obstacles. Every opportunity I have been given has had to be fought for and this has given me a hunger to succeed and prove my worth. Freshman year I was overlooked. The coaches decided to put me on the b team, but by the end of the year, I was one of only a few freshmen to get the call up to play with varsity during their playoff run that year. Much like my freshman year, during my sophomore season, I was again overlooked and again I had to prove myself to my coaches. That year I was the backup tight end and by the end of the year I was the starter and ended up winning the most improved player award. With a division 1 tight end ahead of me during my junior and senior seasons, I knew that if I wanted to contribute and play I had to work harder than I have ever worked before. To accomplish my goal I committed myself to the weight room and during the summer I was able to pack on twenty pounds of muscle and improve my lifts drastically. I went from only being able to bench 215lb for 1 rep in April 2021 to getting 225lb for 8 at the beginning of the season. My squat also went up, going from 275lb to 375lb during that same amount of time. During my senior season, my coaches saw that I could contribute to the team's success. So during the season, particularly during the playoffs, the coaches utilized double tight end formations as a way to get me on the field. As I have matured as a player I have become an incredible blocker and also a tremendous receiver who can make an immediate impact on any team. What I offer is that I will work harder than anyone. I have never been handed anything in this sport and what I want most is the opportunity to earn it. In every facet of my life, I hold myself to a very high standard which is reflected in my 4.2 GPA as well as my athletic accomplishments.
