Personal Statement

My name is Nathan Gibbs, and I have played as an offensive lineman on the Hickory High School football team for 3 years. I've been on varsity for 2 years. I am 6'5", 287 pounds. I played left tackle primarily, but was often moved around.  I have also played a fair amount of defense--mostly defensive end.  I can also long snap.  I served as a team leader last year, and I know the game very well. I was voted player of the week and All-Unifour HM.

I live in Hickory, NC which is one hour north of Charlotte.  I have a brother, Ben, who is a graduate of West Point (he was a baseball pitcher) and is now stationed at Fort Bragg.  My sister, Anna, is on a volleyball scholarship at Queens University and is studying nursing.  My mom is a personal trainer and fitness instructor, and my dad is a banker.

I consider myself a very hard worker, on and off the field.  I make sure that I am first on the field and work out on my own outside of team workouts.  I consider myself a motivator, and have often served as team co-captain (we rotate those positions for games). I also juggle a very vigourous academic schedule taking AP and IB courses which require a lot of work and time outside of the classroom.

I have a strong desire to play football in college and feel that I have the work ethic to do so.   I have watched the rigors that my brother and sister had to face playing a sport and attending elite universities.  My brother also had to work in the military demands at West Point, and my sister is managing two jobs while doing 5 am workouts and excelling in nursing.

My number one priority in my secondary education is academics.  I strongly want to play football at the collegiate level, and hope that I can find a good fit athletically as well as academically.  I am interested in the sciences, possibly engineering, and a possible minor in psychology.  I see myself playing at the Division 1-AA level or a high level Div II or a lower level D1 program.

I am open to all geographic regions and sizes.  I would like to be close to or in a metropolitan area.  I am interested in colleges that offer a variety of majors.  Although I think that I want to pursue a career in the sciences or engineering, I am not quite sure yet.  I am interested in the Ivy League Schools.  I am not particulary interested in a Christian school. Some NC schools of interest are Wake Forest, UNC-CH, Elon,  NC State, Appalachian State, Duke University, but I am open to others as well.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
