Like everyone on my high school varsity team, I have played competitive sports most of my life. I was a successful club soccer player for ten years, playing basketball in the off-season to stay in shape. But pretty early on, I began to see that I had talent on the basketball court, along with the fact that I was always taller than everyone else! When I came to high school, I played on the Junior Varsity team my freshman year, had a great season and was awarded the Coach's Award at the end of the season. My coach talked about how 'coachable' I was, something that I heard frequently during all my years of sports. We just finished a highly successful 2016-2017 season where we were league champions for the fifth time in a row! I broke a long standing school record for three pointers (that was broken the next night, but still...) and won many tournaments. It was fun to open the newspaper in the morning and be featured in a couple of big articles, pictures and all. Two of my teammates and myself set a new county record for three point shots in a season. I was able to maintain my 4.4 grade point average (weighted, for the Fall) and was really proud of my solid A average in AP Calculus! Now that I am finishing my junior year on the varsity team, I realize that I don't want basketball to end with high school. I want to play basketball in college while I pursue my education. I have always worked hard on my academics in order to have many choices for college. This season I was among the highest GPAs in the whole basketball program. Being able to handle high level academics and varsity basketball has helped me become focused, organized and a really hard worker. I would like to major in a math/science area, such as mathematics or engineering. Two of the things I like about basketball is first, being part of a team. I like the camaraderie of fellow players and coaches, practicing, hanging out together. Second, I like the personal challenge of improving my game. If I make three threes in one game, I challenge myself to make four in the next. I am working hard to prepare myself to play at the next level, both academically and physically.
