2013-2014 HighlightsPersonal Statement
I am a multi-sport athlete and honor student. My senior year I was selected to 1st team AP All State in Illinois and voted All Conference for the Big Northern while maintaining straight A's. In 2013-2014 I took five honors classes and I finished at the top of my class with a cumulative 4.512. In addition to 1st Team AP All State, I was voted Special Mention in the IBCA All State poll, and Second Team All state by the Champaign Gazette. Our team was 29-4 and we finished fourth in the state in class 3A. We won our our Thanksgiving tournament and the State Farm Classic. I also played with the Rockford Wildcats AAU team in 2013 and with the Rockford Runnin' Rebels AAU team in 2014. In addition to basketball, I play volleyball, lift, and train with an athletic trainer. I have a strong work ethic and am willing to work hard to obtain those goals. I currently lift three to four times a week in addition to working on my basketball skills every day. I know that I will be a good asset to any team as I am a strong leader on and off the court. I am quick to learn and have the motivation to develop and grow as a player and student. I have been brought up in a home that stresses integrity, honor and hard work; where success is something that is earned and not given.

- Player Profile : Joe Kellen I have had the privilege of coaching Joe for many years on his grade school team, his Rockford Wildcats club team and his AAU team the Rockford Runnin’ Rebels. Joe is a leader on and off the court and has the ability to be the coach on the floor when needed. He has primarily played either point guard or shooting guard since 4th grade and has continued to develop as a ball handler, shooter and defender. Joe is a sophomore at Rockford Lutheran High School in Rockford Illinois and played varsity as a freshman and was a member of the Class 2A 3rd place team. Joe was a key player this past year for his AAU team which qualified for the National Tournament finishing the season with a 25-2 record. Joe has good speed, is a solid ball handler, excels from the free throw line, can score off the bounce and is a very consistent outside shooter. Defensively, Joe is strong enough to defend taller players and quick enough to play while isolated. He has good hands and also has a good sense of when to take a chance when jumping a pass or while trapping. Feeds the post well and runs the break as a passer or scorer. Overall is a very solid passer with good court awareness. Joe has always participated at a high level since he began playing and has hit the weight room to gain strength. He is always willing to put in the extra time and effort it takes to be a great player.
