Personal Statement

Since 8th grade I have focused on Golf as my only sport and since that time I've decided that I would like to continue my golf career in college.  From what my Dad has told me, college sport seems like a great experience and a challenge I am willing to face.  I am committed to making my game as good as it can be, and hope to find a college and community that suits me well.  I golf frequently with my teammates from Bellarmine Prep, my high school, and see golf not only as a competitive activity but a way to have fun because of them.  My teammates are around the same level of skill I am so we are constantly competing and pushing each other to get better, and I want to continue this into college.

In high school golf I played number 4 on our team freshman year and number 1 or 2 most of my sophomore year.  In these two years I've gotten to play we won our League and we won our district freshman year.  Unfortunately, we did not get to play district or state last year because of COVID.  High School State my freshman year was a great experience and was the first far away team experience I've had, we had a bit of a let down only placing 6th, but that was when I decided I really liked the aspect of having a team around me for golf.  In school, I try to challenge myself, as well.  I have a 3.4 GPA unweighted, but I have taken a few honors classes and a couple AP classes and am unsure what my weighted GPA is as my counselor has not gotten back to me yet.

Over this last year I have really committed myself to my golf game.  I've been taking swing lesson three times a month with my coach, Ben Nelson, at Linden G&CC in Puyallup, Washington.  He recently changed my swing quite a but to make it more sustainable as I get older as well as making it more powerful.  I am not completely adjusted yet, but am trying to practice most days in the winter months at my home course Tacoma Golf & CC, where we live on the second hole.  I have also improved my physical fitness a ton.  I have lost about 50 pounds since Covid started and am now trying to build up muscle.  I work out every other day and do cardio and strength training.

I am excited for this spring to show off my game, I have worked hard and am optimistic of the year to come!

  • WJGA Team State Tournament
  • 5/25/21 to 5/26/21
  • My team got 3rd, I shot 74-71 for +1 and a 10th finish. Didn’t get to play much the week before so I feel I could have done a lot better because of some unforced errors, but overall not upset about it.
  • Camp/Event
  • WJGA players open
  • 5/15/21 to 5/16/21
  • Shot a 73-67 for an even par finish. Played 6th and was pretty happy because that course played pretty long with limited scoring opportunities.
  • Camp/Event
  • WJGA Eastern Open
  • 5/01/21 to 5/02/21
  • Shot even par with a 74-70 and finished top 10. Grinder out those scores because I wasn’t hitting the ball very well at all.
  • Camp/Event
  • Rmjgt Willows Run
  • 4/17/21 to 4/18/21
  • Camp/Event
  • WJGA Western Open

  • 3/18/21 to 3/19/21

  • Camp/Event
  • Rmjgt Trophy Lake
  • 3/13/21 to 3/14/21
  • Tournament got cut short due to weather, we only played 27 holes but I got 1st and was -1 for the tournament. I shot 70-37, the course was 6756 yards with a 131 slope rating.
  • Camp/Event
  • Rmjgt China Creek
  • 3/06/21 to 3/07/21
  • Camp/Event
  • Rmjgt Harbor Point
  • 2/27/21 to 2/28/21
  • Shot 77-81 Finished 5th, was one of the longest and hardest corses I have ever played and was pretty much flooded. Struck the ball ok but didn’t feel like I played as well as I could have, but it was my first tournament of the year and my first time playing 18 holes in a while due to pretty horrible weather.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Kyle Stanley Championship
  • 9/12/20 to 9/13/20
  • Played really well the first 10 holes and was at one point 2 under tied for the lead, since we had our phones and I could see my position I got a bit nervous being this was my first ever large event and shot 76 which if I remember correctly tied me for 11th. The next day we only played 9 holes due to a mixture of smoke because of the forrest fires and fog, didn't play well shot 42 and ended up tied for 29th/50. This tournament was cool because it showed me that if I can control my nerves I can play at a high enough I can compete to win big tournaments.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Kyle Stanley Championship Qualifier
  • 9/10/20 to 9/10/20
  • Was a really difficult course, sort of unfair if you ask me but I qualified shooting a 74, it was one that I had to fight for and I qualified for my first AJGA event
  • Camp/Event
  • WJGA Eastern Open
  • 8/22/20 to 8/23/20
  • Had a rough first day and shot 77(+5) including a 5 putt. Next day came back a little but and shot 70(-2) to place T14/62
  • Camp/Event
  • WJGA Player's Open
  • 8/14/20 to 8/15/20
  • Shot 73-74 for +5 overall and tied for 5th out of 57 people. Was a bit of a missed opportunity, the course was pretty difficult and I was dealing with cramps in my side for some reason and had a lot of three putts ue to the greens being really undulating and really fast.
  • Camp/Event
  • WJGA State Championship
  • 8/05/20 to 8/06/20
  • Shot 75-77 missed cut, didn't play very well and struggled in pretty much all areas of my game
  • Camp/Event
  • WJGA Western Open
  • 7/13/20 to 7/14/20
  • Shot 68-75 Finished 6th/120 in 14-18 age division, first time breaking 70 in a tournament and first substantial tournament of 2020
