I was once asked to describe myself with words that started with the letter “D”. Desire, determination, dedication, devotion, diligence and discipline. These are a few out of many words that I would use to describe myself as a leader both on the field and in the classroom.
Hello coach, my name is Justin Felix and I am entering my Senior year at Santiago High School in Corona, CA. I grew up in a very sports-oriented family and played several sports during my childhood. My desire and passion for soccer came from watching my older brothers play and I ultimately chose soccer because I always loved watching the fast pace play of the game.
I have been playing competitive club soccer for 10 years, 3 of those years playing on the Arsenal FC USSDA 04 team. Our team will be a U-18/19 team in the fall of 2021. I currently play outside back for Arsenal FC. Over the past 6 years, I have played the #3, #2, #11, and #6 positions in both club and DA. I have formed a special bond with my teammates over the past year as our battles and dedication on the training field have led to championship games on the pitch. I remain diligent in my preparation and have improved my game while having to adapt to various formations and styles of play.
I have learned that hard work and determination are a necessity in order to earn minutes on the field. I had to overcome a knee injury in 2018 to regain my starting position. I believe that sitting on the bench during that time helped me to analyze the game better as well as understand what I as a player needed to improve in my game. I have been fortunate to have excellent coaching to help me develop my game. I have also had the opportunity to see what it takes to be a student athlete and have success at the collegiate level watching my oldest brother earn academic honors and win a conference championship while playing Division 1 soccer.
Academics has always been a priority for me. I am currently carrying a 3.4 GPA while taking both Honors and AP classes. I have improved upon my time management skills during the coronavirus pandemic while taking on the challenge of distance learning and remaining disciplined to improve my grades while continuing my personal soccer training. My goal is to improve academically each year to increase opportunities for myself in the future. In college I remain undecided about a major but am interested in health, medicine, math, science or technology.
I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you about your program and share with you my vision for the future.
