Philip McCabe '15 Recruiting Profile

I will be graduating from Barron Collier High School in 2015. I have had years of USTA play, although last year (2013) I was unable to play tournaments as I was at boarding school in Tennessee. Since the age of eight, tennis has always been a passion and a love of mine. It has played a large role in my life, helping sculpt me into the person I am today. As you may know, the competition in Florida for tennis is astounding. If you are not familiar, Barron Collier is one of the best high school teams in the nation, taking third in the Decoturf High School National tournament this year (2014), and second the past two years. We are three time consecutive State Champions, although this is my first year. As of last year I had never dreamed of playing college tennis, because the players I have surrounded myself with are some of the best in the nation. When I joined the Barron Collier tennis team, the players enlightened me that I am more than capable of playing college tennis. After realizing this, I decided for myself that I don't just want to play, I need to play. If you were to picture me in a position on your team, you would not only see a capable tennis player, but a leader. For the years that I have played on my high school's teams I have been looked up to as a leader. I am seen as a person one can come to for on and off the court advice. If someone is down I take it upon myself to help lift them up. If the team spirit is low, I help make a quick and easy fix. Being a very good people person has allowed me to go to three different schools and get involved at all three. From privates to clinics, I train year round with my coach that I have had for more than four years. I work hard everyday to balance my tennis with academics, and my personal life, and of course academics do come first. Although I love and cherish the game of tennis, after college it will only be a hobby. I see myself entering the hospitality business in the footsteps of my father. I have grown up with a business mentality, loaning lunch money for interest as a sixth grader. And I believe this mentality is where I get my competitiveness. Weather it is to get the highest grade in the class on a test, or to win a game of golf, I am a competitor in every thing I do. I compete not only with my opponent, but with my self, striving everyday to get better. Striving to be the best I can possibly be in everything I do. If I were on your team, I would bring the same competitive flair. Playing or on the sidelines, I would do everything in my power to up-lift the team. Through my ability and my character I truly believe I can make a great difference to your team.
