Personal Statement

I think that the characteristic that sets me apart from others at times is my discipline. Once I'm set on something, I won't back down and stick to whatever routine it takes to get to whatever goal I need to attain. With my background in archery, I'm used to training long hours and mentally assessing many situations of both loss and victory. Even for athletes who may absolutely love their sport(s), it is bound for them to have moments where they simply are tired of doing what they have to do. In my case, I've had many moments like that, but I haven't let them stop me at all. I simply cannot help but to hop on the work cycle and chase my goals. In other words, it's a set part of my personality to take challenges not let go of my routes to my goals. Aside from my athletic accomplishments, my discipline is not only limited to one part of my life but rather applied in different ways to every part of my life that requires it.  In my academic experience, the only thing that's really kept me going is my tendency to act upon my disciplinary impulses. Even if I am an IB student, I wouldn't really consider myself the most talented at any subject. However, I pull myself together to get top marks in my classes because my mind drives me to put my best into whatever I have to do and be a critical part of myself. It's a kind of mindset that has been developed over time thanks to the work-oriented environments that I've been involved with.

It's my intention to bring that part of me into collegiate tennis. I've spent most of my high-school years dedicated to my archery accomplishments and don't have many official tennis statistics, but I believe that I have the drive and physical capability to make myself valuable to a college tennis team. With a constant drive for improvement, I want to play during my college simply because I love the sport, regardless of whether I get scholarship recruitments or not. Winning is something valuable to me, but the more important thing to me is the route towards improvement because the work behind anything can make anything worth it.

In the end, because of the discipline that I put into whatever I do, I aspire to make a life for myself in college as a student-athlete by managing my work towards engineering as well as being the best tennis player I can be.
