My name is Cole Holliday. I am a senior at Mauldin (SC) High School. Mauldin competes in the SCHSL 5A classification (largest schools). I have been a member of the Mauldin Track & Field team since my freshman season when I was introduced to Pole Vaulting by Coach Jonathan Berry. In less than two months time, I had cleared 10'6" and finished 13th in the highly competitive Greenville (SC) County Championship. While I concentrate on pole vaulting, I also compete in the high jump and long jump. I have earned a varsity letter in each of my first three seasons of high school competition.
In the summer of 2016, I began training year round with Rusty Shealy Athletics/PV in Columbia, SC. With his guidance and coaching, along with hours of dedicated practice and training, my heights have consistently increased over the last two years.
In spring of 2018, our team won the Region 2-5A Boys championship and finished the season tied for 8th place in 5A. At the end of the season, I was named a Team Captain. I finished 3rd in the Pole Vault (13 feet) in our Region and 9th in State (13 feet). In 2017 we took third place in region, and I was named Most Improved Field Events for the team. Later that summer, I placed 3rd in the USATF SC Championship 17-18 PV and qualified for regionals.
I also compete with the 36 Elite MOVES AAU/USATF Track Club. In July, we finished 4th in the AAU National Club Championship 17-18 Mens division with only five athletes. I finished 5th in the pole vault and qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics. In June, I finished 2nd in the USATF SC Championship 17-18 PV and qualified for regionals. I also took 1st in the AAU SC 17-18 PV to start the summer.
My individual goal for the 2019 outdoor season is to consistently vault 15 feet plus in all meets and contend for the 5A Pole Vault Championship. Out team goal is to repeat as Region Champs and win the 5A State Championship.
I currently have an overall 3.5/4.0 weighted GPA in College Prep level coursework. This is a big accomplishment for me as I am dyslexic and must put in extra effort to achieve this level of academic success. I plan to pursue a business/marketing/sports management degree in college while being a consistent performer and scorer on the track team.
I am searching for a college home with a quality campus life that provides a competitive environment in both the classroom and on the track. I believe my academic and athletic success to date, coupled with my proven leadership abilities, will make me a welcome addition to the right school and track & field program.
