Have you ever had to relocate across a closed foreign border (Canada) in the midst of a global pandemic? I have. That's just one of the monumental firsts of 2020 for me. Let me give you a bit more context about MY story. I was born in the Midwest (Illinois) and spent a fair amount of time in Wisconsin. I got to enjoy the sun and deserts of Arizona for a few years. My family was presented the opportunity to live in a beautiful foreign country; one with a different political structure and controversial healthcare system. Finally, like my entire peer group, 2020 marked a virtual 8th grade experience and then I was informed we were being relocated to the suburbs of Philadelphia! By the time I celebrated my 14th birthday, I was moving into my 6th house, 4th school and state. When I share this story with my teachers, friends or other adults, many of them give me a look of pity. I then explain that this is what has contributed to making me ME! It's definitely not easy to move like I have but I have friends that live, literally all over and I have gotten to not just visit but live in some amazing places. Outside of my family, there has been one other constant for many of these moves and that has been softball. I thrive in the competitive and supportive environment of a team.
I have had to become a self-starter, because I've been the new kid a few times. I can read a social situation and properly determine my next steps; you might say I'm quite good at assimilation. These life events have carved out a coachable (be direct with me) and driven (I'll be at practice, first, last to leave and do all the extra work) leader (possessing a winning attitude both on and off the field.) I'm a pitcher, a first baseman and an outfielder. I'm as equally committed to my studies. I'm fortunate that my school's reputation is as synonymous with service as it is to its challenging curriculum. I have one B+ and the rest A's (3.8) but I'm doing everything to get straight A's. I am torn between pre-law or pre-med. I'm involved with my Women's Leadership club at school.
