I love everything about the game of basketball. I’m always looking for opportunities to have a ball in my hands and to be in the gym. As a point guard, I know I have to always encourage my teammates while being enthusiastic. I also believe that the best thing for a team is to have that special bond with all of your teammates. I know that through tough games, the most important thing will end up being whether you can win as a team and trust who is on the floor with you.
Always, my main goal has been to play college ball. I’m fully aware that there are many girls with the same goal as mine, but my amount of practice and work ethic sets me apart from the rest. I am always determined to not allow anyone to outwork me although, I do love the competition. Not only am I able to enjoy the big wins my team and I get but I also value the tough losses that can then help me to improve my game. I believe that every time I step onto a court, it is another opportunity to learn something new and improve. I have the ability to see the floor giving my teammates open looks while being able to sense when I can make a move and score. I pride myself on my ability to handle the ball and have a quick step to the basket. I love to anticipate passes which results in fast-break layups or fast break offenses. I am an outside threat from any range along with the ability to take the ball to the hoop because of my moves, quickness, and speed.
I love spending time in the gym, but I’m also a dual sport athlete. I enjoy competing in track exposing my “never lose” mentality as I’m crossing the finish line. Not only do I enjoy running track but I also know it is helping me improve in basketball. The races I do, which are all sprints, contribute to making my step quicker against my defensive player. Additionally, the longer sprints I compete in, help me build my endurance and ability to beat most girls up and down the floor whether I need to catch someone down the floor in transition or beat someone up the floor for an easy bucket.
Along with having goals on the court, I have goals off of the court as well. I challenge myself academically, maintaining a 3.9 grade point average. I realize that grades should be my top priority which I will need for the rest of my life. It is just as important to me to keep my grade average high, as it is for me to play college ball. Thankfully, I have learned skills like good time management and dedication which help me with both of my goals.
