I take pride in representing my school and myself on and off the court at all times. My desire to play basketball was fostered by my mother and grandfathers. Their encouragement has allowed be to succeed on the court and in the classroom.
I began playing basketball at age five. My mother and grandfather both had played in high school and encouraged me to play. I fell in love with basketball and continued to play. As I got older I decided to try other sports. I began with running track in sixth grade and in seventh I added in volleyball. However along the road I continued to work hard and also excelled in the classroom. I take pride in representing myself and my school in all areas on the court, on the track or in the classroom to the best of my ability.
My defensive skills are a large part of my game. If there is a loose ball I'm diving on the floor to retrieve it. If I'm at the top of the key in zone I love to force turn overs by jumping in the passing lane. I take advantage of my size and wingspan to trap in the corners or forcing five counts before inbound pass can be put in play.
As a three sport athlete my freshman and sophomore years I went from volleyball to basketball to track. Each sport allowed me to work hard, be a part of a team and to have a great high school experience. As a middle hitter in volleyball I learned the value of team work and working together to achieve a common goal. In track I was able to make it to sub state both years in relay and as a 300 hurdler. Sophomore year I was able to break the school record in the 300 hurdles. My sophomore year I came off the bench to help our basketball team make it through the year 14-0 in conference play; we finished the year as conference champions.
My junior year I was a starter during the volleyball season and also made the all tournament team for our district tournament. Basketball came next and the focus shifted to full court press, zone defense and teamwork. I was a starter part of the year during the season due to injuries and other times I was sixth man off the bench. Regardless of the role I was required to fill I always did my best. The experiences are priceless and will always be treasured.
My focus will always be geared towards excelling academically, athletically and personally.
