Hard work is the key to success. As for me, I'm very familiar with the concept of hard work. Ever since I started sports as a young kid, I’ve always been taught that hard work is key. While I am a multisport athlete, my love is basketball.
Younger me watched and played sports. Instead of watching Dora the Explorer, I would be outside playing. I started basketball in the summer of 6th grade. At the time, I was relatively short and slow, which put me at a disadvantage with my teammates. After the first two years of playing, I started to develop a passion for the game. By 8th grade, I grew to 5’9, knew almost every post move you could think of, and had a good handle on the ball.
Unfortunately, you know about 2020 and how hard of a year it was. I took that opportunity to improve my skills to another level. There was no gym I could go to, so I had to stick with playground goals with double rims and a goal on the street in front of my trainer, Terry Boykin’s house. If your ball hit the goal the wrong way, it would be rolling down a hill which I had to chase every time.
I continue to train six days a week which consists of practices and personal workouts to improve my abilities to help me on the court. I do believe hard work overcomes physical gifts, and I prove that in every practice and game. As of now, I am 5’11 and have the ability to shoot both mid-range and 3’s. During games, I am very observant on the court and love defense. I believe that defense wins games. My goal is to use hard work and passion to take me through college and in everything my future may hold.
