My name is Alicia Gates. I am 5'8, I weigh 155 pounds, and every basketball court that I step on, I am sure to lay my whole heart down on it. I started playing my Freshman year of high school, I'm going into my 3rd year of playing basketball. Yet, I have love and passion for the sport as if I've been playing since I was 5 years old. I absolutely love playing basketball, I always give 100% in practice and games.
I have many goals and dreams as an athlete, both short term and long term, that I work every day for. For college, my goal is to have a decent amount of playing time and gain respect from both my team and coach. I want to prove myself and offer everything that I have to make an impact and difference on the team. My goal is to make myself, family, and coaches proud of my performances in College. I want to be able to look back at every game, every practice, every day in college, and know that I did the best I could. I want to be proud of all the work I put in, I want to achieve all of my goals and dreams. I want to succeed and look at my teammates as family. My biggest dream though, is to play basketball over-seas once I graduate from college. It would mean everything to me if I made it to that level after college.
As a player and teammate, I have a lot to offer. I have so much heart and drive. I always dream about playing basketball in college, it's all I desire, all I ever talk about. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get to that level, I work hard and feed off of my mental motivations and dreams. I have great leadership skills. My sophomore year I made the varsity team, but due to playing time, I was moved down to the JV team. I instantly took the team captain roll and pushed my team every game. In practice, I always do my best to motivate and push my teammates or partner. Because at the end of the day, I realize that every drop of sweat means something. I want to feel good and know that I pushed myself and teammates to the max, all that hard work only pays off. As a player, I offer dedication to my coach and team. I would NEVER quit on my team, and I always try my best to do everything and anything that will help my teammates or coach.
I've always wanted to live in California and attend college there. Anywhere in California would be a great opportunity, but I am definitely open to going to ANY college that may be interested in having me. It would be an honor, and my dreams have no limit. Playing basketball at any college is still a big dream come true, I'm greatful for any opportunity.
I am still unsure of exactly what I want to major in. But one that I am really considering is Forensic Science.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement, it means a lot to me. I am very greatful and thankful for any opportunity.
