I was introduced to golf when my grandpa took me out to play my first round shortly before my freshman year of high school. I immediately realized I had a talent and love for the sport. He helped me discover early on that I really loved playing golf and wanted to continue to play. I had to work very hard to improve and be able to compete with girls who had been playing the sport for years when I was only just starting to play. I enjoy the competitiveness of golf as an individual and team member.
My twin sister and I grew up competing and always pushing each other to excel in everything we do. Having that constant competition helped me push myself to refine my golf skills so I improve every season. I want to keep developing my golf game and competing in my college years. Also, with having a twin I know what it is like to have to compromise, share, and work together to achieve a goal. While golf is individual, it also requires support and encouragement from teammates. Playing softball has helped me take direction from older teammates and coaches as well as focus on fundamentals of the sport which often involves multiple players working together to achieve a goal. As a multi-sport athlete, I feel like I have risen to the challenge of working on my individual skills while being a supportive and collaborative teammate.
When competing in school I apply what I learned on the golf course into my school work and I push myself with high level classes and keeping above a 3.0 grade point average. It is important for me to continue to compete in golf at the collegiate level, while I pursue a degree to obtain the skills and credentials required for a lifelong career. Golf has given me the chance to grow as an individual and learn more about myself. I learned that I can be patient and how to handle and overcome adversity like putting mistakes behind me and learning from them. I love golf because it is an individual sport and I get the chance to push myself to make strides in my golf game.
I was awarded Most Valuable Player my freshman year and that was my first season playing golf. My Sophomore year I dropped about 20 strokes and junior year I dropped another 10 or 15 strokes. Over the summer I got a job at the local golf course, so I could fully immerse myself into golf. With that job I had access to the course whenever I wanted so I could practice a lot before and after work. Having this job made me understand the sport even more by getting the chance to see the game from behind the scene and by completely immersing myself into the sport for the past three years. Golf has obviously become a passion of mine and I have a strong desire to continue playing golf through my college years and for the rest of my life.
