Hello, my name is Madison Wood and I live in beautiful Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. I just recently moved here from Long Island, New York (The Home of Lacrosse). Originally, competitive cheer-leading was my primary sport and I just played lacrosse for fun. I traveled all over the east coast competing in cheer competitions. But then my stunt group dropped me on my head, and competitive cheer had to go. Now I play club lacrosse up and down the east coast and am a starter on my high school’s varsity lacrosse team. You can say it’s a lot better than being thrown in the air when they almost always catch you.
I am a straight A student who is very involved in my school’s extracurricular activities along with volunteering for a couple of great local charities. I am a member of the school’s Student Government and I have the opportunity to help plan and work at student events. I also work for Kaleidoscope, an awesome after-school program that teaches young kid’s social skills and fun ways to learn. I also volunteer for the National Buddy Walk Program, the Travis Manion Foundation and local events that promote learning opportunities for young people. I also help coach my Dad’s youth lacrosse team, so I know the struggle!! It’s hard to coach girls that don’t want to listen to you. If you want the opposite, then that’s me.
I am the type of lacrosse player that never wants to get off the field. My Dad laughs that if we were playing lacrosse on the deck of the Titanic, I would want to get one more game in before we abandoned ship. I want to play lacrosse for a college program that is blue collar and close knit. I want a lacrosse coach that will help me build life skills, not just lacrosse skills. I am the type of player that is coach-able, and I always have a great attitude, whether I am winning or losing. As a matter of fact, sometimes the best games I have played in have been when my team lost. As long as I am having fun and learning how to get better, that’s what’s most important to me.
I feel that I am the type of person and the type of student athlete that would make a college lacrosse program better. I am the type of person that is a coach on the field, a strong leader and a great teammate, on and off the field. I love this sport and all the adventures I have been on because of it. I might be a little too modest here, but have to say…..I’d recruit me!!!
