Personal Statement

My name is Jillian Fox and I’m a class of 2023 goalkeeper. I am looking for a highly academic school with a strong soccer program that is centered around a team mentality.

I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old - earlier if you count being shot at in our small backyard goal by my older siblings, Anna and Ethan. Like many goalkeepers, I started as a field player - a striker - and slowly transitioned, before being fully committed to the position in 6th grade. Most of my coaches knew I would end up in goal before I even did. My high school coach still remembers me as the first grade girl who couldn’t get enough of his futsal program and so offered to stay on for multiple sessions - playing goal against third grade boys. He claims he said to his co-coach, “that kid is going to be a goalkeeper someday.”  Back then, what drew me to the goal was getting to dive all around the field, but now I have grown to love all aspects of the position and would say my strengths are my athleticism and a wide variety of types of distribution.

I feel really confident in my desire to be part of a highly competitive program because I have played at almost every level: town, travel, club, NPL, and ECNL. I have loved rising to the challenge of playing for increasingly competitive teams and facing the best strikers. My most highly anticipated games are always the ones against the best teams, even if I know it could be an uphill battle and my team might lose. My goals of playing college soccer started at an early age, through seeing my sister’s process to commit to Colby College where she is now a sophomore. I identify as a student-athlete and am really looking forward to finding the right fit for my collegiate career.

  • I am really excited to be joining the '05 World Class FC ECNL1 team this club season. Being offered the GK position on this nationally ranked team which reached the quarterfinals at ECNL Nationals is an amazing opportunity. I can't wait to compete with the team!
  • 2020 CFC United (ECNL 1)
  • This season was obviously very impacted by COVID, however, I utilized the time off from team training to really work on my individual skills, fitting in multiple sessions with my GK coach and my SAQ coach. My first highlight film is compiled mostly from these sessions. I was also lucky that our club created a summer season to make up for all of the time missed in the spring.
  • 2019 CFC (ECNL1)
  • I played for Jim O'Brien this season and was really proud of the fact that our team improved its record dramatically from the fall to the spring. Jim was also an incredible coach to have in my first year as an ECNL keeper, since he was a college GK and is a current D1 coach.
  • 2018 CFC United (NPL)
  • This was my first year playing for a team outside of my region. My parents actually wouldn't even let me try out for the United ECNL GK position because they didn't think I was old enough to travel over an hour to and from practice! Playing for Alistair Lonsdale really helped me up my game to compete at a higher level. Alistair was actually the person who introduced me to Paul DelloStritto, my private - and former CFC United - goal keeper coach back in 2017.
  • 2017 CFC - Chelsea (NPL)
  • I was really fortunate to play on a high level team which trained in the neighboring town. We trained at Chelsea Piers and were able to utilize their strength training along with their full field indoor goal. I was also coached by Susie Starrs, a phenomenal GK from Yale, who actually trained under my current private GK coach, Paul DelloStritto.

Training

  • Personal GK Coach - Paul DelloStritto
  • 5 years
  • I have trained with Paul since my u11 club year. We train 1 on 1, 90 mins to 120 mins 1-2 days a week all year long. Paul has taught me everything I know about goalkeeping and has trained many D1 keepers in his career, including USWNT keeper, Alyssa Naeher.
  • Leo Germiniani
  • 2 years
  • Leo (LGSoccerFit) is my SAQ trainer. He has really helped me improve my touch and my physical strength. We workout as much as we can, fitting in multiple sessions in the off season. Leo is also a phenomenal striker, so he also challenges me to be my best in goal against elite strikers.
  • CFC United Elite Academy and CFC United Elite Youth Academy
  • 3 years
  • Experience playing with Dave Clarke's Elite Academy for three years. The best players from the CFC United program receive this extra training from Coach Clarke - a U17 USNT coach. These sessions combine ages and give players experience playing with the best of the best in the club.
