I’ve played soccer since I was three years old, and I’ve loved it ever since. For me, it was a sport that clicked from the beginning; a sport that I could play every day and never lose interest. Today, I still love the sport just the same. Players like Christen Press and Carli Lloyd have inspired me to continue to work hard and play the game I love.
For these reasons, playing college soccer is an obvious goal. College soccer is meant for those in search of a challenge, hard workers, and leaders. I feel that I meet all of these characteristics. I love challenge, I do not take days off, and was captain of my team from my U8 year to my U13 year. Today, I remain a leader for my coach and teammates. In addition, over the past three years, I have run cross country where I was the top runner and started on my middle school basketball team.
In every match, I try to be a dominant presence on the field. My skill set allows me to play both the attacking and defending midfield positions and feel equally comfortable in either responsibility. This season I lead my team in assists and take the greatest pride in setting up my teammates for success with a great through ball, one-touch over the top and defensive intensity. I am never one to shy from my own shots when presented.
Academics are a very important part of my life. I go to Westminster, a highly regarded school in the Southeast, and I work really hard there to maintain my 4.0 GPA. For all three years of middle school, I received the Highest Academic Distinction award, and my overall grade average is a 97/100. This year, I received two nominations to Broadcom National Science Fair for my Thermoelectric Phone Charger. I was a top performer in the state and regionals, and I am waiting to hear back from Nationals in September. Last year, I took a practice ACT as a seventh grader for Duke Tip, and a received an award for scoring in the 99th percentile among all other seventh graders at Duke Tip taking the test.
My best strengths are math and science, though I have not made a decision on what I intend to study in college. Both of my parents are doctors, so I will certainly consider the field of medicine. Whatever I choose, I intend to lead the team in GPA and look forward to supporting my teammates in their academic ambitions.
I play three instruments: piano, guitar, and clarinet. I’ve played piano since I was six years old, taught myself guitar at seven years old, and played clarinet for my middle school band for three years. I look forward to bringing my strengths to my future college soccer team.
