Winning the Boji tournament( grade school tournament held in Okoboji, IA at the end of spring season) in eighth grade really opened my eyes to the game of teamwork, hard work, and just love of the game. Last year I was also blessed with the opportunity to be a part of the first girls team at my club, NFC. From my defensive position I have been able to assess the pitch, guiding my teammates in the game. As a result, I have been picked captain of my select team. This carries great responsibilities of being there for my team, even in the hard times. I am finding a way to work together no matter the circumstances. This has helped me grow both on and off the pitch because both soccer and school can be rigorous and intimidating. Soccer and this leadership position challenges me to keep moving forward and keep trying regardless of the hard test or hard team. I made the varsity team for my high school, which as a goal of mine. Pretty quickly in to the season I was pretty disappointed. For the first time in my soccer career, I as not starting. I quickly learned the lessons I learned on the sidelines made me a better player and student. This as not a disappointment but a new challenge and I soon learned to over come. When I went in, proved myself to be a strong contributor to the team. This year, I have set an academic goal for a higher GPA than last year because I not only want to succeed in soccer but pave a way with the best collegiate option for me,
