To Coaches and Whom it May Concern,
My name is Sydney Frazier. I am first a compassionate individual, secondly a great student, and thirdly a talented Goalkeeper. The word 'Goalkeeper' is capitalized in the previous statement because, although it is only 1/3 of what defines me, I feel it sets me truly apart from others around me. As a Goalkeeper, I am an independent worker, an unique player set apart from my teammates. I must have a different set of skills and a different mind set while also being a part of a larger, more important task- being a teammate.
My freshman year, I was one of two goalies on both my High School and select team. I played on one of the top teams in Division 1 as well as in the composite league, and I learned to fight for the time on the field-there were two goalkeepers. This same year I competed for a spot on my High School Varsity team. I learned the importance of teamwork. My teammates believed and me as they learned I would not let them down.
With new confidence I had a great sophomore year. I won four awards -Dr. Pink all-Tournament GK, 1st Team All-District 5A, Academic All District, and Lake Dallas HS Defensive Player of the Year.
My upbringing differs from many I know. My mom raised my three sisters and I on her own, since I was two years old, and has been all of my families financial support as long as we have been here. My mom receives no financial support from my father or our government, and has worked hard her whole life to support my soccer. She is my greatest role model, and has taught me strength through hardships, determination, and to never ever give up or cut myself short. Because my mom went to college and became a Registered Nurse at one of the greatest hospitals in America (Children's Medical Center of Dallas), although she can support us, she will not be able to assist me in paying for college. I plan on earning scholarships through grades and potentially soccer, and working hard to pay my dues. My determination to become a great public servant one day, and my moms never-ending work ethic inspires me to try my hardest in everything I do, as I believe she is the human embodiment of the phrase 'If you want it, earn it'.
Academically, I have always been gifted. Through elementary school, I entered the 'EXCEL' program, an advanced program for children who learned at a faster pace, in 2nd grade. In 4th grade, I won 1st place UIL award for Ready Writing and was honored by my school board, and in 5th grade, I was 1 of 3 students to earn 100% on the state math test (STAAR). I also assisted in the Special Olympics. In Middle school, I was involved in my student council in 6th grade and was also accepted to National Junior Honor Society. In 7th grade, I was selected as a school ambassador, a student that helped other new students grow accustomed to LDMS. In 8th grade, I became NJHS President, and helped raise money for a family that couldn't afford their Christmas that year though school fundraising. I also participated in many 'Keep Corinth Beautiful' pollution pick ups. I also scored 98% on my Algebra 1 EOC, the second highest grade in my class. In high school, my freshman year I won my first academic all district award, and this year (my sophomore year) I won my second academic all district award, won 4th place 'Disturbance Call' regional in my Law competition, and attended the state competition as an alternate my first year in the club. I also took my first PSAT this year, and scored in the top 12% nationally., and scored 'on track for college readiness' in all areas, earning an 1150 total score. I am also in the top 17% of my class.
In aspects of character, athletics, and academics, I am prepared to be apart of a great college, a great team, and a great life. My goal in life and in college is to make a difference, on the team and in the outside world. I want to be a role model, and I know that my first step to that is through an education.
