Swimming is my passion. I started swimming competitively at the age of 4. My love for swimming has grown with me, and I continue to find reasons that I never want to stop. My family and I have faced our deal of hardship and loss, but I have continued to turn to swimming as an outlet. When I'm in the pool, I feel a step away from it all, swimming is a breath of fresh air for me. Looking back on my childhood, my fondest memories will always be the connections that I have made through swimming, being on the same team as my brother and sister, meeting my best friends, and my greatest mentors. Swimming has taught me more than I know, not only about being on a team, but also about myself. It has taught me grit, that when you don't make the qualifying time, you work harder and push to reach your goals. It has taught me the importance of being willing to learn, the ability to show up to every practice and meet ready to work hard, and to learn from myself, but also from coaches and my teammates. It has taught me sportsmanship, to congratulate my competition, no matter how the race ended. To cheer on my teammates, in an individual sport, you're still part of a team that builds each other up. It has taught me the importance of handling myself with grace, even at times where I disappointed myself in a race. I have learned that good grades are earned, not given. So, through the rest of my high school and college academic experiences, I plan to continue to hold high standards for myself as a student. Although, I am undecided what my major will be, I expect to work hard both inside and outside of the pool, and see the results of my hard work.
