Aloha, my name is Kayla Sylva! I am 16 years old and I am a junior at Kalani High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. I started swimming lessons at the age of 9 and began swimming competitively at 10 years old with Kamehameha Swim Club. I consider myself to be a passionate, dedicated, optimistic, and hardworking athlete. Living in Hawaii, water activities and sports have always appealed to me. I participated in high school varsity swimming, varsity water polo, and varsity paddling. In addition, I decided to go outside of my comfort zone of water sports and participated in varsity track this year. As a student athlete, self motivation and time management are skills I am constantly working on in order to maintain my grades and keep up with my responsibilities. I take pride in being able to balance my numerous activities on top of keeping up with school work and taking the time to relax and spend time with my friends and family. I consider myself to be a very passionate person when it comes to my activities. Before I swam, I started dancing at the age of 3, and have continued to dance ever since. Dancing has taught me many life skills such as perseverance, dedication, and commitment from a young age. Although I don’t dance competitively anymore, I’ve remained very passionate and continue to attend dance classes in my free time. I aspire to exemplify my passion and hard work in college sports and hope to be allowed that opportunity.
