My love for this rollercoaster of a sport began when I was only 6, making swimming the center of my life for the past ten years. Today, I am a 16-year old preparing to finish my junior year at Colts Neck High School. As every athlete knows, there are ups and downs when training to competitively compete. This past year displays a perfect example of the imperfect world we live in, stopping training all together a year ago. I was fortunately able to continue my training in June of 2020 with certain restrictions to pool time. Getting back into a routine really allowed me to focus on my goals, not just athletically but academically with NJ schools restarting in September. This year especially, I added more dryland work than ever before, like lifting and spin classes. As I just completed my Championship meet this past weekend, it disheartened me to not see the exact results I hoped for. Of course, it will take more than six months to rebuild what we all had lost last year. That's why I'm looking forward to my senior year, and more opportunities to continue swimming.
Swimming is a sport where both the mental and physical aspect play a key role. Training year-round is the easy part compared to becoming mentally ready for a meet. I try to be mindful, and not too harsh on myself if I don't see a personal best. Which is why having great teammates to surround yourself with is just as important as dropping time. Being on a team means supporting each other through the good and bad. A healthy positive attitude is a good start to succeeding together.
I want to attend a college that best suits me both academically and athletically. I am particularly interested in studying Nursing, but more specifically becoming a Nurse Practitioner. I look forward to attending a school that challenges me in all aspects of my life.
Thank you!
