For as long as I can remember, I have always been involved in sports. I have tried and played many different sports throughout the years such as volleyball, soccer, softball, cheerleading, track and basketball. Out of all the sports I have played, there isn't one that compares to the passion I have for playing volleyball. It has always been my go-to activity. If I had my friends over, the first thing I would do is grab a volleyball and pepper in the front yard. As I got older I began to realize that it was just my sport. Being able to play volleyball means the world to me and I am so glad it has played a large part in my life. Playing this team sport has made a huge impact and has also allowed me to grow as an athlete, teammate and person.
I have played school or club volleyball for as long as I can remember. Through the years, I have noticed that on most teams, my teammates look up to me as a leader. I tend to naturally lead by example with my skills and positive attitude. I think my love for the game can sometimes be contagious and sends positive vibes to my teammates. As a freshman, I was on the varsity volleyball team; splitting time between JV and V. During my sophomore year I was exclusively varsity and started as an outside hitter. My junior year I started and played all the way around, hitting primarily as an outside hitter and middle back. I was a team captain of my high school team my junior year and earned co-offensive MVP, sharing that award with our senior middle hitter.
I have been told by many coaches that I am a very coachable athlete. I thrive in an environment where I have a coach who challenges me and helps to increase my play and knowledge of the game. When I was younger, I was always very short compared to my teammates. Because of this I was always looked at as a defensive specialist and I learned great discipline in my passing game. Thankfully, I finally did some growing and was able to become an effective hitter along with playing the back row. I believe that having experience in both positions as well as getting a lot of playing time during high school and club seasons had made me a very versatile player.
During my volleyball career I have had many different coaches, all with many different coaching styles and personalities. I have a strong work ethic and my desire to grow as a player and be challenged by my teammates and coaches to improve is what drives me. I would love to have the opportunity to continue my volleyball career outside of high school.
