I was fortunate to begin playing volleyball when I was eight years old. A friend of mine persuaded me to join the CYO team with her. I was hesitant because I did not have confidence in my ability at the time. I was not very good, but I refused to give up.
When I was 10 years old, I wanted to play more competitively. With the support of my family, I began playing club volleyball in the winter of 2017. The court became my second home. My teammates became my sisters.
The sport is challenging, and I am committed to growing as a player. When I make a mistake, I quickly analyze the play and do not allow it to affect my game. When I get off the court, I make sure to ask my coach for advice on how my performance can be improved.
I would not be the person I am today without the work ethic and life lessons that my coaches have instilled—and I am very grateful for all of the opportunities that I have been given. In 2019, my team was fortunate enough to earn a bid to the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships in Indianapolis, IN. My team was the first in my club’s history to accomplish this goal.
Every club season since, I have been determined to become a stronger, better-rounded player and teammate. I am always willing to do whatever is best for the team and play any position. Volleyball is such a big part of my life; I can’t imagine doing anything else.
My parents have instilled in me that playing volleyball is a privilege and not a necessity. I know that if I do not do well in school, I will not play. This makes me work even harder to earn good grades.
My goal is to play at a collegiate level; I am determined to work hard to earn the respect of my school, team, and coaches— I will continue to strive to do the best I can as a student-athlete.
