My name is Lauren Milani and I am an OH/RS for the class of 2021. I am a 3rd year starting varsity player on my high school team, Cranston East High School. I was chosen by my teammates to hold the role as Captian this season, and I have been working hard on being worthy of that role. My High School team won Division 2 Championships my Freshman year and was moved to Division 1 my sophmore year. We competed well that season and made it to the quarterfinal round in the playoffs. This past season, my High School team came in first place in out division and made it to the semi finals but lost in a tough match against the defending State Champions. Our goal is to continue to work hard and make it to the State Championship next year! I was honored and surprise to be named the Rhode Island High School Player of the Year for 2019. I was in shock to recevie this award as there are a lot of girls that I look up to as athletes and that I work very hard to compete with in the state. .
I was a 6 year member of the Blast Volleyball Club out of Northern Rhode Island for the start of my volleyball career. For the 2018-2019 Club season, I played for South County Juniors located in Southern Rhode Island. My team, South Count Storm, had a very successful year taking the top spot for 16's in New England. We were able to medal in every tournament we competed in including Boston and Hartford and we even won our bracket at the AAU Nationals in Orlando. This season I am a member of the 18 Open team for South County Juniors. I am looking forward to a very competative and fast pace season!
In the summer of 2018 I was selected for and participated in USAV's High Performance Program. I held the position of OH on the New England team that participated at the HP Championships in Tulsa, OK. Traveling and competing with some of the top players in my area was such an amazing experience. That level of competition taught me to be a more confident player in both my skill set and my role as a leader on a team of strangers, who are now friends.
As I start to think about my future and education, I am focused on finding the right College/University for my future employment, while making competitive volleyball a part of my college journey. While I have not decided on exactly what I would like to study, I have always been interested in the Sciences. To start my college search I am focusing on schools with solid Nutrition, Physical/Occupational Therapy and Athletic Training programs. These are areas of academics that I believe would be the best fit for me in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and to get to know a little about me. I am looking forward to the future and what it holds for me while trying to enjoy my high school experiences.
