My name is Soraya Bussatti and I aspire to be a proficient college athlete. Primarily, I am a defensive specialist and an outside hitter for the class of 2021 at Cranston High School East and my club team, South County Juniors. I am a second-year starting varsity player on my high school team. My freshman year was the year I knew I wanted to play college volleyball. I was a starter on our high school junior varsity team. Stepping into the gym every day for the past three years has been the greatest feeling.
I have been playing volleyball for five years. I have played for "Avono Volleyball" and "Evolution Volleyball Club" both located in Puerto Rico. I moved to Rhode Island in 2014, due to some family financial issues I had to take a year or two off. I knew I wanted to continue to play volleyball when high school came around. I have played for the 15 Open Team at "Blast Volleyball" in 2017, 16 Open Team for "South County Volleyball" in 2018, and I'm currently starting my club season with the 17 Open Team at "South County Volleyball ". My teammates and I had a successful 2018 club season and managed to win a medal every tournament we attended to. I am excited and looking forward to this upcoming season.
This past season, my high school team was very successful by placing first in our division and played against the defending State Champions in our semi-finals. Although we lost, it was definitely a hard-fought match. Being the first team to win a set from this undefeated team was something all of us wanted to do for a very long time and to finally achieve this goal, it was an ecstatic feeling. While the season came to a close, I won the awards of Second-Team All-Division and Third-Team All-State. Going into the season I set those goals for myself and stayed motivated until I could finally say I was proud of myself for accomplishing this goal.
I am eager to bring this sport to the next level when I go off to college. I would love to have an opportunity to not only grow as a student but to also but utilize all the skills I have learned within my volleyball career. For me, it is not so much about what school I go to because I know I can adapt well to any environment. Even though I am still exploring my options, I am interested in Early Childhood Education / Occupational Therapy fields. Volleyball is a sport that I love most, I’ve dedicated much of my free time to it and have made many sacrifices in order to be the student-athlete I am today.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I am really excited and looking forward to seeing what the future holds for me.
