I view volleyball as more than just a sport, it has taught me life lessons about friendship, cooperation, how to have self discipline and how to receive constructive criticism. Winning is awesome, but it isn't everything. The most growth I've experienced as a player is when my team has lost a game. That is when I have recognized that there is always going to be "a better player or a better team" out there. What I need to remember and to share and encourage my teammates with is that "winning" really is all about self accountability and mental attitude. How you deal with an outcome that wasn't what you wanted or expected shows true personal character and team sportsmanship.
Encouraging my teammates and listening and applying direction from my coaches has always been important to me as a player. I am looking forward to being a part of a team and attending a school that challenges me both athletically and academically. I am a driven person who enjoys excelling in the classroom. Getting good grades makes me feel accomplished and keeps me focused on my future opportunities in environmental science and for playing volleyball beyond the collegiate level.
