My name is Maddie Edicola and I am a homeschooled senior. In a nut shell, I am passionate and intense, but I always have a good pun at the ready! I’ve been an athlete for 9 years, my main sport (before discovering volleyball) was softball. My softball teams have included both rec and travel clubs. I competed twice as an All-Star, winning the Virginia State Championship in 2017. Always up for a challenge, I attended a volleyball camp not knowing that it would ignite my passion for the sport. I now have an intense focus towards pursuing collegiate volleyball. My highly competitive and energetic spirit will spur me forward both athletically and academically towards this goal. I hope to pursue a degree within the Fine/Studio/Visual Arts spectrum. I have won numerous awards for my paintings and photography- including a 1st place award for my on-site art entry that I created for Virginia BETACon in February 2020.
I believe being a versatile, team oriented, and hard working player is an important component to volleyball. While I am a defensive player at heart, I have been asked to step up as an outside hitter and middle hitter on my club team this year. As my coach likes to say, I am 5’5” with a 6’0” mindset! I am frequently untilized as a six position player on both my high school and travel teams. I believe it is important to not only have the ability to play any position, but to have a thorough understanding of how each position contributes to the game of volleyball. By having that deeper understanding and court awareness for each individual position, I am able to compete to the best of my abilities for my teammates- whether it is as a DS/libero, OH, or MH. By doing so, it helps my team compete to our fullest and achieve success. I will always play wherever my team needs me most, and continuously work to not only strengthen my defensive skills, but also my hitting fundamentals. At the end of the day, I value the relationships I have with my teammates, and aim to do everything I can to support and positively reinforce them on and off the court. While the feeling of winning is beyond thrilling, I believe it is not only important for my team to compete to win, but to work our hardest, strengthen our bond, and have fun. I am grateful for every opportunity given to me, and would be honored to represent the team I will proudly wear on the back of my jersey alongside my future teammates and coaches. “Purrhaps” I would close this statement with a “koala-tea” pun, but alas, you might not “dig” it!
