Abena Ofori-Nyako '22 Recruiting Profile

As an aspiring student-athlete, when I go to college, I want to be able to represent my school in the best light attainable, in and out of the pool. After college, I would like to become either a neurosurgeon or geneticist. If water polo takes me far, I would use my influence as an inspiration for other young water polo girls, especially people of color. As a goalie, I've been taught to be a leader in the pool by using my voice to support and assist my teammates whenever possible. I always give my teammates advice on how to bet me in the pool, so that when we play games, they are able to use the advice that I have given them to enhance our performance.  As a regular student out of the pool, I love all my classes, especially Math and Mandarin Chinese. I have been taking Mandarin for the past 4 years (since Fall 2015), and I am currently in an Algebra Honors course for 9th grade. Every year, I participate in my schools dance production, Arts with a Heart, a fundraiser for non-profit organizations that support a cause. In my free time, I like to watch Korean pop videos and Asian dramas, learn Korean, and sample Shirley Temples when I go to restaurants.
