I am a 6’3” 185 pound catcher from Phoenix, AZ and will graduate in 2021 from Northwest Christian in Phoenix, AZ.. I’ve been playing baseball for over 13 years- Little League, club baseball and high school. My final year of Little League, at the Intermediate level, our team won the state championship and we represented Arizona in the District Playoffs in Nogales, Az. My 8th grade year I was the starting catcher for my junior high team and we went on to win the league championship.
I am a player who leads by example and was named captain on the JV baseball team my freshman year. During my freshman year I was called up to varsity and caught games during the season. I was the starting catcher for the varsity team at Northwest Christian for my sophomore and junior seasons. I am well respected by my teammates and coaches. I was the only freshman that was brought up to play with the varsity team my freshman season and remained on the varsity team in the state playoffs. Our team made it to the final four last season and defeated the number one team in our conference during our playoff run. I was named First Team All Region catcher for mu sophomore season and was chosen by the NCS coaching staff as the recipient of the Total Release award which is given out at the end of the season.
Our 2021 season will hopefully begin in February and I will be the starting catcher for the varsity team.
I am by nature a protector and so it makes the position of catcher a perfect place for me. I am a hard worker—driven and determined—even when the score is not reflecting a win. I am a quick learner and coaches have always trusted me to call the game and lead the team with honor and respect. It’s my dream to play at the college level. I have no preference on the type of school and am open to considering all my options. Currently I am looking to major in Criminal Justice or Fire Science.
I think all boys who love baseball dream of playing in the MLB and of course, I’m no exception. However, realistically speaking, I’d be honored to play on a college team as a freshman and make an impact on the lives of my coaches and teammates just as I know they will impact my life. I will give 100% in both academics and on the field.
Thank you-
Austin Steel
