I have been playing baseball since I called it T-ball and my Dad stood by the bases so I knew where to run. Baseball has always been an escape for me and something more than just a sport. To say that my plan was to play in college would be an understatement because my plan was to play forever. College was just one of the privileges along the way. I would even say I'm guilty of being one of those kids with no other plan than to play baseball forever. Baseball is my passion second to none.
Now is the point of this statement where I'm vulnerably honest about my skill set. As a pitcher which is where I have found my greatest success, I am not the hardest throwing recruit you will run across. Although my off-speed stuff has good solid movement there are guys that might have a pitch that breaks or moves more than mine. With that said I have total control over all 5 of my pitches. I can work both sides of the plate and I understand or have pitching awareness when I am in the moment. My baseball IQ although possibly not up to college standards is high when referencing high school standards. I lead by example and I never let my emotions get the better of me on the mound. I am coachable and actually seek quality coaching so that I can continue to elevate my baseball skills. I can take constructive criticism or tough coaching if that is what I need to be successful. I am hard-working and I am positive that any baseball coach from any age level in my life that I have ever played for would support my statement as a hard worker. That is a bold statement that I would challenge you to check me on because that is the type of person you are recruiting and it will be verified as fact.
I have no real off-season as there is always something I can be doing to improve myself and my game whether that be on the field, in the weight room, or otherwise. I've played travel ball, and I have traveled and played internationally. While playing in an international tournament in the Dominican Republic I was named outstanding pitcher throwing a complete game shutout in pool play, a shutout over team Dominican in tournament play, a one-hit shutout over Puerto Rico in the semifinals, and pitched a perfect inning in relief in the championship game winner over Venezuela. I played in every All-Star team growing up which sounds funny to say now, and have carried that success through my first 3 years of high school.
I do not take a break when it comes to academics either. I take care of business in the classroom and I have a current GPA of 3.9. I have gained a number of academic awards along the way but those awards although great are hard for me to get as emotionally excited about. I am proud of my accomplishments for sure but it is also my responsibility to take care of my grades because my grades can not only increase my opportunities but they can also eliminate them. With that mindset set it is sometimes embarrassing to be recognized for what I feel I'm supposed to do.
At the end of the day, my statement is I know I will add value to a program because I know who I am and I know what my goals are. I know where I have been and I know the challenges I have had to overcome. I know that I am better for my experiences but even more, I know that nothing has stopped my pursuit. I want to push myself as a baseball player and I want my full potential to be reached. I want to play baseball and finding the right college or the right program is important. I know that the best of me has yet to be tapped into so the journey is just getting started and I'm going to make a program proud to have me as a part of it. Thank you Dad for staying on this crazy ride with me. If you thought the first half was fun get ready!
