My name is Sam Coxen, and I am a 6”1’, 167lbs Junior (Class of 2024) at Del Oro High School (Division I) in Loomis CA maintaining a 3.75 GPA. I am a right-handed hitter and a right-handed fielder playing any spot in the outfield and pitcher.
I have been a multi-sport athlete since the age of 4 and playing “travel” baseball and soccer for most of my life. Being a Native American (Choctaw) my family and I have always been outdoor enthusiasts. When I was young, it was hard NOT to find myself outside with a bat/ball in my hands or a soccer ball at my feet. I started playing baseball for the local rec program and knew quickly that baseball was my passion. As I moved up to the higher levels of baseball, my coaches often commented that I was “meant to play baseball”.
My coaches and my Parents have been a huge part of my success to this point. We have all had great coaches and not-so-great coaches, but I always lived by the motto of “take any and all feedback and make it a learning event”. I aspire to get better every day and at the same time, I strive to make those around me better every day as well. My coaches often reference me as a leader and an inspiration to my teammates (see my reference letters). I always look for ways to make myself better on and off the field.
One of my recent success stories was, over this recent summer (’22) I attended a 4-week pitching camp where I increased my velocity from 79mph to 84mph but recently have upped my velo to 89 off the mound and currently sit at 87mph in game situations. I have had great success on the mound this past Summer and going into this Fall season.
I have been very fortunate to have parents that support my addiction to baseball. I was able to attend two showcases this last summer (’22) and received great feedback while at the showcase as well as follow-up from schools.
I know that hard work and persistence will pay off in the long run. My goal is to play the highest level of baseball as I can in a program that will help me grow as a player and a young man. I know that with hard work, dedication, and my passion for the game, I would be an asset to any team at any level.
Thank you for taking the time to learn who I am, I hope I get to learn more about you and your program.
Sincerely,
Sam Coxen
