Personal Statement

My name is Matthew Mewborn. I am 6´1” and weigh 175 pounds. I’ve had a passion for sports since age 4. I’ve excelled in baseball (13 yrs.), tackle football (6 yrs.), wrestling (2 yrs.) soccer (1 yr). I played Varsity Football as recently as the Fall of 2021 as starting Defensive End, but my #1 passion is baseball. I’m happy to say, for me, playing football improved my development and aggressive style as a catcher.

My goals are to: (1) attend and complete a 4-year college and (2) successfully play baseball at the collegiate level.

After a low average Freshman GPA, my total through Junior year is 2.6. As of 15 Sep 2022, my Senior year 1st Quarter mid-point grades are 3.7. This progress report and an official transcript to date are posted in my profile.

I strongly believe I would be a good candidate for any team based on the documented commitments and an extended work load over the past five years. In addition to the many primary teams listed in my profile, I participated with an equal number of other teams filling in empty weekend days as a guest player. Additionally, I participated in a number of local development programs, attended several 1-1 training events and volunteered for bullpens at the area JC. I never turned down a chance to work on my skills and conditioning and plan to continue this effort through all levels of baseball.

I’ve shown I can step up for the big games both in baseball and football. My best 2022 baseball game was in our M.H.S. Finals win in the CA Central Coast Sectional Championship.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
