Personal Statement

http://http://members.baseballfactory.http://http://members.baseballfactory.336967http://https://dashboard.nationalpid.com/athletepages/views/336967Ihttp://https://dashboard.nationalpid.com/athletepages/views/336967 am a 6' catcher from Angwin, CA, a small town in the Napa Valley. Since my freshman year I have been the starting catcher for the St. Helena High School varsity baseball squad, earning MVP honors both years, and receiving the 2018 All-League First Team for the North Coast League. I’ll play club ball with the NorCal Baseball 2020 Red Prime team this year.  I played Napa American Legion 19u & 17u teams the last 3 yrs based at the Veteran's Home in Yountville, CA where we have the honor of playing for the the Vets through the summer and into October.

I aspire to attend and play ball at the highest level institution possible. I hope to attend a school that will challenge me, preparing me to reach my fullest potential as a baseball player and as a contributing member of society. Improving my game on and off the field is my responsibility, ultimately.  I'm looking for a team that values self-discipline and accountability.

But it's not all about me.  Most important is what I can do for my team, not only athletically, but by helping to build trust with teammates and coaches based on respect.  Yes, we are all excellent athletes, but we don't have to be cocky about it. We can boost each other for our successes, and challenge/motivate each other to keep improving.

Baseball has taught me a discipline which I  translate to all areas of my life.  Taking AP  courses is hard work, but worth the effort.  Memorizing pages of lines for our school plays takes focus, teamwork, and hours of practice, but the payoffs are an amazing production, and great friendships and memories. Living a balanced lifestyle is a discipline I benefit from every day by avoiding toxic behaviors and substances, getting enough sleep, great nutrition, and strength training. It's a win-win for me.

My parents, coaches, and teachers say I'm easy-going and adaptable. Not much bothers me. I don't like being wrong, but I can take criticism when it's due. I like meeting new people, trying new foods, learning about different cultures. Growing up on the most ethnically diverse college campus(Pacific Union College) in America has helped on that last point.  I don't see race or cultural differences as a liability but an asset, and I have friends from nearly every continent who can vouch for that. Our differences make us stronger.  I look forward to working with a diverse team and attending a school that values these qualities while putting my strengths to good use for the benefit of their baseball program.

  • Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Caleb is a strong C prospect who continued to showcase his skills at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Behind the plate, Caleb presents a good target to the pitcher and receives the ball out in front of his body. He gets into a low secondary stance and replaces his feet to throw. He throws with a short arm action to 2B, showing good life through the bag. Caleb moves to block on time and centers the ball in the middle of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He is controlled getting into a simple load and drives his lower half through well. He takes a smooth swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap power. Overall, Caleb is a talented prospect who will be one to follow going into his junior season.

  • Caleb Jeske is a 2020 C with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Angwin, CA who attends Saint Helena HS. Slender athletic build, plenty of room to get stronger. 6.90 runner, has lots of quick twitch athleticism that will continue to improve as he gets stronger. Right handed hitter, shows his quickness defensively, compact quick actions, solid fundamental footwork, arm slot is a bit low but gets rid of the ball very quickly and with plus accuracy. Right handed hitter, hits from an open spread stance with a short and quick swing, creates good bat speed with a gap to gap approach, squared the ball up hard virtually every game at-bat and aggressively attacked pitches in the strike zone. Nice young player on both sides of the ball and will keep improving as he matures physically. Good student. 30-Green vs. 32-Purple Game Highlights 12/29/2018 1:35:09 PM Caleb Jeske (2020 C, Angwin, CA) was one for one in the game hammering a triple to centerfield that jumped off his bat. He shows good plate discipline and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the low 2.00 range with accuracy and on line carry as he displays outstanding arm strength. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He will control the running game with his feet / arm. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the dish. With 3 years to further develop, Caleb has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Offensively, Caleb has a balanced set-up, open stance, and uses some lower body. He can spray to all fields and has some pop to the pull side.

  • Coach Todd Smith, formerly of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization (early 1980s) began working with me when I was 13 years old, two to three times a month. I quickly advanced to become the best pitcher and batter in my league level at the time. Coach Todd taught me the language of training and I quickly learned to apply his words into actions that got results on the field. At 15 years old I began individual coaching of a couple Little League Minors players who are now at the top of their level. It's a great feeling!
