James Schoch '18 Recruiting Profile

Throughout my life I have always found a few things in life that inspire me. The first of these has always been baseball because I find that it is a way for me to escape from my stresses and allow myself to enjoy the competitiveness and energy that comes a long with this great sport. Growing up in the Bay Area, I have met and talked with many people that have gone on to play baseball at the collegiate level and every one of them has told me that it is important to pick a college that fits for me in more ways than one. I plan to major in business and sports management because I would love to be around baseball for as long as possible, whether it is on the field or in the front office. On the field, I take pride in my work ethic, my coachable personality, and my inspiration to continue getting better even when it seems I've reached the top. I think that baseball can help make me a better person and I know this to be true because my cousin Stephen Schoch, while playing for University of Maryland Baltimore (UMBC), has taught me to make baseball more than just a sport, but rather an ability to learn life lessons such as self-esteem, leadership, teamwork, and also how to take on failure. These factors from my cousin, my coaches, my parents, and my baseball community have turned me into a baseball player that can perform on the field and also learn life lessons from the field that can make me a better man in life.
