What sets me apart is that nothing was given to me and I didn't "find" it at an early age. I was and always have been the underdog. Therefore, I've learned that you only get what you work for.
Furthermore, the player I am is a high-energy, team-first player. Many players' only goal when they're on teams is to be the best. However, I strive to just be the best version of myself while I hope to make my teammates better too. I love my teammates and I'll always have their backs. I believe getting to work towards a common goal with people who have similar goals is unique and it's important to also take the time to create powerful bonds that'll last a lifetime.
I've had my share of setbacks: a broken finger, a fractured foot, a lot of failure (but that comes with the territory). However, through the worst parts, that's where the most valuable lessons are: Only control the controllables. This game is a privilege not a right. Everything is earned. And self-belief is the most valuable asset there is. That's the one advantage I believe I have over other players: the ability to handle adversity. I believe I wouldn't be where I am today without my failures. Therefore, unlike most people who stray from it, I seek the challenge.
Aside from baseball, I take pride in my school-work. I don't want to excel at baseball and just slip away with poor grades because in being a student-athlete, the STUDENT part comes first. With all the work I do to be great on the field, I take that same energy into my schoolwork because education will always be there no matter what; baseball won't. Therefore, my goal is to go to a college and earn a degree.
At the end of the day, regardless if I'm a fit for your program or not, my goal will always be to get 1% better everyday.
Respectfully,
Dylan
