Growing up in a baseball family, I spent a lot of time in my early childhood watching baseball whether it was on television or at the game. As a little kid, I really enjoyed the pitchers and how they controlled the game. I grew up in San Diego and my parents had season tickets for the Padres so I grew up watching some elite arms like Jake Peavy, Greg Maddux, Trevor Hoffman, etc. Although my parents were Padres fans, I really enjoyed watching Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants. When Cain was consistently healthy, he had great stuff and a dominating fastball which helped him really put away hitters and dominate the game. As a pitcher, I feel like I control the game as well as the outcome of the game and that's very important to me because I don't like losing. My goal in games is to make the hitter think as he goes up to the plate,"Oh man I'm overmatched." If I can get to a guy mentally before he even gets in the box, I feel like I have already won the battle.
As a leader on and off of the field, I can take charge of the game by getting a read on the hitter based on what he's done in previous at bats. I have the talent and mentality to be a difference maker at the next level from the start. I am a student of the game as I'm always learning. I do the little things very well, the things that don't necessarily go in the scorebook such as moving a runner, sacrifice bunting, etc. My actions at the plate as well as on the mound helped propel my travel team to multiple victories over the summer.
I am a student athlete who is willing to put in the time and effort not only on the field, but in the classroom as well. At my high school we have an engineering pathway which is interesting to me. I also am very interested in statistics, whether it's business or sports. I will be a good fit for not only your baseball team, but for your university as well.
