At 4 1/2 years old, my mother began pitching to me in the backyard while my older sister was also playing softball; this is where my competitive spirit began! I became the "gamer"that I am today. I put in 150% effort, get feedback and keep practicing so I can continually improve upon my skills, never feeling quite satisfied with my performance, no matter how good it is. I have learned to keep driving myself, even through failure, to learn from my mistakes, and to keep my sense of humor. In this way, I can positively focus on the game ahead. These characteristics, having "hustle", being open and receptive to feedback, and being persistent, are the reason I am here today, pursuing college baseball.
The cost of participating in many of the teams and baseball-related activities is an obstacle which I have had to overcome, given that my mother is a single parent, on a teacher's salary. By successfully applying for and obtaining scholarships and sponsors, arranging some trades, and working part-time during the off-season, I've been able to help defray these costs and continue to play high level baseball.
Outside of baseball, I have also played football, basketball and golf. I like to wake-surf, boogie board, fish, and listen to a wide variety of music. I"ve been known to YouTube just about anything, and play a few video games. I am a loyal friend, supportive teammate, and cheer others on.
I believe I will have a positive impact because I wholeheartedly care about the game and the outcome for our team, about doing my personal best, and bringing out the best in others. I consistently "show up" for my team, and will hold up my end of the bargain, take responsibility if I make mistakes, and do what it takes to correct them.
I know how to balance my time between my academics, baseball, and other extracurricular activities, and keep finding ways to better my time management. This will help me to succeed when I am playing in college. My goal is to maintain my 3.8-grade point average (or above), and get accepted to a four-year college where I can play baseball and obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Math with a minor in Business.
