Personal Statement

Pitching in the Colorado state championship as a freshman has been the highlight of my baseball career.  Although runner-up was the best we could do that day, nothing compares to the experience you get playing in a state championship.

I work hard and love playing baseball…but so do thousands of other student athletes like me. I’m sure you read hundreds of personal statements about why baseball players love playing baseball, and I do love baseball…but I believe it takes more than just loving the game to be a great baseball player. I’m a dual sport athlete in baseball and basketball. I understand the importance of hard work but having fun at life is important too, I feel a good sense of humor is important.  I enjoy school, but I have to work hard to do well and get the grades I want. I want to attend a university where I can study business, law, and sports and hopefully find a career where I can use all three.

I’m grateful God has blessed me with the talent to play baseball at a high level. Even though I get very excited about the game, I like to show control on the baseball field. I’ve been described in articles as having “great composure and presence on the mound.” I can consistently hit my spots and make my pitches. As a result, I’m often put in the game when the situation requires someone that can stay calm under pressure and pound the strike zone.

I look forward to finding a university where I can achieve my academic goals as well as use my skills to add value to the baseball team.

  • Primary right-handed pitcher with a medium frame and build. Starts from the windup with a small side step in the delivery. Has a slow and smooth delivery to balance, landing online before falling slightly to the glove side at release. Has a short arm action from a three-quarter slot, showcasing developing command with the fastball at 79-82 miles per hour. Will locate to both sides of the plate and shows feel to spin a curveball with 11-5 shape and good down action at 68 miles per hour. Also shows a change-up in the mid-70s. Also worked out in the infield, rounds the ball well with a clean funnel out front. Has clean glove actions, sees it in well and shows some good athleticism through the fielding process. Shows some good arm strength making accurate throws at 83 miles per hour. Right-handed hitter that starts from a wide base, showcasing easy bat speed and a direct path to contact. Has a simple load, executing a middle of the field approach. Repeats the swing well. Good student.
