Dear Coach,
My name is John Bureau and thank you for reading my personal statement. I was a junior starting center fielder for East Lyme High School varsity baseball in 2022 in East Lyme, CT. I also was the varsity starting center field as a sophomore. I am a 2023 graduate. I am 6' 1", 170 lbs and have power to all fields. I hit left, throw right. I earned honorable mention (outfield) in my conference in the 2022 season; I hit 357 with 2 home runs. In 2023 as a senior, I earned 1st team Division 1 all-conference, and all state honors (Class L), and was selected to the CT all-state senior all star team. Including 6 tournament games, I hit 410 with 2 home runs, 18 rbi's and 35 runs scored. I hit leadoff in all 26 games.
I have been a three-sport athlete (baseball, basketball, and soccer) since my freshman year. I am playing 2023 summer AAU baseball with the CT Crush 18U Elite team (Coach David Hall) after a very productive 2022 summer season with CT Crush. I hit 438 with several triples and doubles.
My goal and aspiration is to select a college that challenges me both academically and athletically. I haven't yet selected a major but I am leaning toward sciences/engineering. I believe that I have a desirable blend of academics, athletics and work ethic. I am a responsible, polite and respectful young man. On the baseball diamond, I am a 'team first' player. I love the game and the comradery. I am an intuitive player with skills in the batter's box, in the field and on the bases. To maximize my performance, I have committed to improving my physical strength by working out 4-5 times per week. The hard work off the diamond has translated into increased power at the plate.
My primary community service activity has been assisting a disabled adult neighbor. I have retrieved his daily paper and mail for the past 3 years, and transported garbage containers to the base of his driveway on a bimonthly basis. Additionally, for the past two years, I have participated in the Miracle League in East Lyme.
Thank you again for reviewing my personal statement. I hope that you will consider me as an asset to your team and to your college/university.
Thank you
Most sincerely, John Bureau
