As a student athlete, I would be grateful for the opportunity to play baseball at a high academic institution. Throughout my baseball career, I have been described as a "team leader," "extremely coachable" and a "crafty lefty." I am deeply committed to improving my game, building strength and velocity in my pitching, and perfecting my mechanics. I appreciate that training is a marathon and not a sprint and there are no shortcuts. With that in mind, I try to be vigilant about staying healthy, from nutrition to conditioning and arm recovery. Like every pitcher, I would love to add 8-10 mph to my fastball overnight, but as I work diligently toward that goal, I will rely on my natural spin rate to fool batters! In addition to being a student in the classroom, I also consider myself a student of the game of baseball. I am fascinated by the strategy, can "geek out" on the statistics, and appreciate all of the intangibles that make baseball the greatest game ever created. I believe that a good defense wins baseball games, but perhaps I am biased. Above all, what I appreciate most about baseball is the camaraderie of being part of a team. Without a doubt, my closest friends are those with whom I have shared a dugout. I am motivated to improve my game not for personal glory, but to enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that I have earned my spot, carried my weight and given 10% more than I even thought I had in the tank.
