Nicholas Hernandez '17 Recruiting Profile

My name is Nick Hernandez and I live in Oak Ridge, New Jersey. I am in my sophomore year at Jefferson Township High school. I am currently 5’8” and weigh 175 lbs. My Primary Position is Third base. I also play second as well as first base.  I have been competitively playing baseball ever since I was eight years old.

My work ethic is very simple, work hard every day and you will get better every day. My goal is to play college baseball and my dream is to play professional baseball. I believe what drives me to go out and take those extra swings, groundballs, and put in the work in the weight room is that I want to make a difference. This is a line that my Dad has been saying ever since I was eight. I didn’t really understand what he meant by that until I was about eleven. Once I understood I think that’s when I knew I truly wanted to pursue baseball and make that difference that I understand now.

In the past I have played soccer and basketball as well as baseball but I had never felt the same passion for those sports that I feel for baseball. “There may be people who have more talent than you but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do, and I believe that” (Derek Jeter).  This quote is a quote that I live by because it’s true no one should work harder than you in anything you put your mind to. In this case my commitment is to baseball and I will do whatever it takes to get to the next level.
