I have been obsessed with baseball for as long as I can remember. I grew up around it, following my older brother to games and practices and begging people to play catch with me. What I love most about baseball is the friendships, team culture, and how the environment has pushed me to be a better player and teammate. I am always conscious of learning from the failures and successes of each game, and of looking for small ways to improve from day to day. Whether I’m waking up at 5 a.m. to practice on my own before school or watching a video of Yadier Molina receiving, I am dedicated to doing whatever it takes to grow as a player.
I recognize that my physicality is one of my biggest strengths, and I work hard in the weightroom to maintain and build my athleticism and explosivity. I am currently 6'2" and 220 pounds, but I move well for my size and have fluid smooth actions in the box and on defense. In a recent workout, I ran a 6.8 60-yard dash, and clocked 1.97 second pop time. I consider myself a well-rounded player, with a good feel for the strike zone and the hitting ability to tap into my power in games. As a freshman, I was one of the leaders in regular season home runs in the state of California and led my team in RBIs. I was selected for the 2nd team all-league as a freshman, and 1st team all-league as a sophomore.
As I continue my baseball journey, I hope to attend a University that will challenge me both academically and athletically. I have always thrived in a rigorous academic environment and it’s important to me that I continue to do so. Playing baseball in college will hopefully be a stepping stone to my ultimate goal of playing professional baseball.
I recently had the opportunity to play on the Oakland All-Stars Team for Coach Bunner, who has 20 years of experience coaching Bay Area players in California. Many of his players have continued their baseball careers at the highest collegiate levels and several have played in the MLB. Coach Bunner will continue to coach the seniors in the Oakland-area Little League and will coach next year's All-Star team with the goal of traveling to the Senior Little League World Series. Here’s what Coach Bunner had to say after getting to know me last summer:
Nate is the kind of player every coach looks for. He is the total package!
He’s coachable and no one works harder.
Supremely physical, mature, smart, and a true leader. He's loved by his teammates.
Offensively: Elite pop at the plate, able to drive the ball out of the ballpark to all fields. Plus speed for a kid his size and position. Knows how to battle at the plate.
Defensively: A take charge guy behind the plate. Calls a great game. Solid hands and blocking skills. Plus arm.
It was a true pleasure coaching him.
