I have always had the mind set of where will I play college baseball, not “if” I will play. Ball was my first word and I’ve had a ball in my hand ever since I could hold one. My grandfather played for Houston Baptist while my father played for Georgia State and I plan on following in their footsteps. Baseball is my legacy.
I am physically gifted with a high baseball IQ. However, my path has not been without its challenges. My freshman year on the Boone High School JV baseball team was extremely successful. We went 14-2 and I lead the team in home runs, on base percentage, batting average, total bases, RBI’s, and runs. My plan for the following year was to continue to build on my strong Freshman year performance. However, as an elite two-sport Varsity athlete I suffered a football injury in the fall of 2018 that threatened the Spring 2019 baseball season. I had a short timeframe to recover so I went to work. I went to physical therapy 3-4 days a week and put in extra work in the cages, weight room, band work, and throwing. Ultimately I was the only Sophomore to make varsity in 2019, led the team in doubles, and contributed to a playoff run that resulted in 2nd in Districts and 4th in Regionals. What I learned in this process is sometimes obstacles can derail the best plans, but positivity and hard work are the best medicine.
I’ve always been told that 2 things motivate people; desperation or inspiration. I choose inspiration. I choose to get better, fast, and stronger through hard work and self-determination. I choose to put the work in for academic success. I choose to be the teammate I want next to me on the bench and on the field. I choose to find a program to contribute and compete at the next level. I choose to inspire others with my choices.
