Hello, my name is Tyler Whitley. I am a 2024 Left Handed Pitcher from Loganville, Georgia. I've been in the game of baseball my entire life. I started playing the earliest I could. Baseball has been very important in my life and has taught me a lot of lessons. It has led me to like other hobbies like lifting weights and nutrition. Baseball has motivated me to do well in the classroom. It has taught me accountability and self discipline on and off the field.
I'd really like my talents on the field to give me and my family a good life off the field. My family has sacrificed an unimaginable amount of time and resources to give me the privilege to play this game. My dad had an accident and is a paraplegic. I am amazed at the things he achieves in his position. I know if he can keep a positive attitude and work extremely hard, even in the toughest times, I have no excuse when it comes to staying on top of my academics and athletics. He does the best he can with the circumstances he has, so he is the reason why I put forth the effort to get a chance to play college baseball in the future. I feel like I owe my parents the world and getting my school paid for as the youngest of four siblings, would give them a little chunk of what they have given me in my life.
Another reason I play is my competitiveness. I play on a highly competitive high school team. We all know what we need to do to get better and we push each other past what we think is possible day in and day out. I love winning and being in a winning atmosphere. I feel like if I can have that winning attitude, it makes everyone better. It gives not just me, but the whole team, the confidence everyone needs to succeed at higher levels, against the best competition. It can be tough to get your chance, but I think it brings out the best in me and the people around me. We know that we have to be at the top of our game to be able to stay on the field, so it makes us that much more honed in on being a good player and teammate.
Baseball takes all nine players to play the game the right way. This has taught me to be a good teammate and to help out others even if it's for the better of another human being. The selflessness baseball has instilled in my life has made me realize that you cannot do things alone, you need help from others as others need help from you. It teaches you to keep an open mind. This game teaches you to listen and think before you go out on a limb about something. Baseball has taught me how to struggle and be patient with your struggles. It has taught me not to give up after one thing goes wrong. You cannot get too high or too low on yourself in this game. This is the biggest lesson I've learned from baseball.
