My goal is to maintain my high grades and obtain a 4 year degree while continuing to improve on my baseball skills to the highest level possible. I am looking to transfer from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin after playing my freshman year there. I have gotten stronger and aspects of my pitching have improved. The command of my fastball has improved as well as my off-speed pitches. I have started working on throwing a cutter as well. Now, I am able to throw five different pitches: a fastball, curveball, slider, cutter, and changeup. I was able to pitch 28 innings total in my first year, and we faced some of the top division two baseball programs in the nation such as West Texas A&M, Angelo State University, and Texas A&M Kingsville.
I lead by example with my hard work and effort in practice and games. As a team captain for the HS baseball and swim teams, I made overall team improvement, performance and success part of my responsibility. I have never missed an event or game due to injury despite having played 100 games a year and pitched 100 innings per year.
Whether I have an academic test or a game, I believe in preparation and in baseball, that goes beyond the practice field. As a fielder or as a hitter, I think about game situation tactics and plans prior to every pitch. I am very coachable so if asked to bunt, I will do my absolute best to execute a great bunt. In addition to my pitching, I have played every position in the field at a high level as I have been a two way player on all teams I have played with the last several years. I make good decisions and throw the ball straight. At the plate, I am a patient hitter focused on pitch selection and while I have HR power, I am also a good bunter. For the HS season that just ended, I was on the mound as a starter or saver for 75% of our team wins where I pitched 44 innings, had 40Ks and only walked 13 with a BAA of 227. On offense, I led the team in stolen bases, runs scored and BA of 366. I had on OBP or 429 (this is against some of the best AAAAAA HS teams in the country). I typically am at the top of the list on most all teams I have played in runs/PA, a very seldom quoted but ultimately important stat that takes into account OBP, SBs and smart base running.
What separates me from other recruits is that one HS assistant coach nominated me for the “GA Positive Athlete Award” which speaks to my character. What I have achieved on the field combined with achievements in a magnet math and science program off the field speak to my committed hard work ethic in everything I do. As a 15U player for the Mets, I held 17U Team Elite Prime (8 college committed kids on that team) scoreless through 6 innings, 3 months later as a 16U player in the fall, I shutout 18U Nelson Baseball (similar players on that team). Spring 2015 HS season, I pitched 6 shutout innings against the neighboring AAAAAA first place Westlake team at the time. This summer, I pitched in 17 games with a 7-4 record, several all tournament team awards and finished the last PG tournament with a 0.0 ERA complete game against the 17U EC Astros (8 college committed players). In the 2016 HS season, I opened up region play with an 8K, 1 walk no hitter. I went on to lead the HS team in batting average, stolen bases and runs scored. In summer 2016, I played June with 18U Team Elite Prime and after they finished at the end of June, I played a PG tourney with 17U TE and finished the summer with the 18U East Marietta Mets where I pitched and played short in the Evoshield Classic where I was named "all tournament player" both as a hitter and a pitcher. I have done this frequently over the past three years so when given the opportunity, I get results.
