My name is Max Baumer, from Batesville Indiana (Class of 2023). I am 5'10", 190 pounds. I am very passionate about the game of baseball and have worked relentlessly toward my lifelong goal of playing at the collegiate level. I have played travel baseball from 8U to present, playing in tournaments all over the Unites States. I work year round in the weight room, on the field, and in the cages to improve my skills. My dad promised me a long time ago that if I ever asked him to practice baseball with me, he would never tell me no. In hindsight, I think he regrets that promise because I always want to practice...He never gets a break! I plan to be as dedicated to baseball as my dad has been to me. I will also be forever grateful for my mom and brother for also helping me chase my dream. They have, undoubtedly, made lots of sacrifices to get me to where I am today.
At 12U and 13U, I played for a high level coach in Cincinnati who pushed me pretty hard. He was tough on me, but now I realize it was because he knew my potential. He coached me into several positions, including catcher, pitcher, 3B, 2B, 1B and outfield. I can still play all positions but my passion became catching. I am currently ranked the #7 catcher in the state of Indiana according to PBR rankings. I enjoy being a leader on the team. I have a competitive spirit and a fun personality, making me a favorite in the dugout. Coaches and teammates appreciate my positive energy and ability to motivate the team. My reputation as a skilled player, coachable kid and likable teammate spread quickly. I was asked to tryout for the Indiana Bulls, the most elite travel baseball organization in Indiana. I am now beginning my fourth season with the Indiana Bulls. My first high school season was also very successful. I was a varsity starter (3B and catcher) and hit a home run in my H.S. debut game. I was a top performer, helping my team win Sectional and Conference.
My strongest asset is hitting. With my solid frame, I am an advanced power hitter with an above average bat speed and exit velocity. At the PBR Fall Underclass Games, I scored in the TOP 3 of NINE statistical categories of Trackman and Blast Baseball. I was #1 in FIVE of those categories. I recorded the best exit velocity of the day at the event.
While I am passionate about baseball, I am also extremely focused on academics. The freshman transition was challenging, but I continue to make progress toward improving my GPA. I am hard working, dedicated and always welcome academic and athletic challenges.
I really appreciate you taking the time to read my personal statement, and I hope you will consider me for your very successful baseball program. I look forward to joining a program of experienced coaches and competitive baseball.
